What is Yoga?

Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. It is an art and science of healthy living. The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’.

There are six branches of yoga. Each branch represents a different focus and set of characteristics.

The practice of Yoga is believed to have started with the very dawn of civilization. The science of yoga has its origin thousands of years ago, long before the first religions or belief systems were born. In the yogic lore, Shiva is seen as the first yogi or Adiyogi, and the first Guru or Adi Guru.

Yoga is an old discipline of Hindu philosophy from India. It is both spiritual and physical. Yoga uses breathing techniques, exercise and meditation.

Pranayama is made up of two words – ‘Prana +Ayaam’ Meaning-  To Strengthen The Vitality. In this, Prana means Breath, in the language of yoga it is called Prana-Air. And Ayaam means- giving the right direction or way. To give the right dimension or right direction to what we breathe, so that it is beneficial for our body and life. This is called Pranayama. Pranayama purifies our body and increases vitality.
